My name is Allison and I’m the co-owner of OYS. Brian, my husband, is the other co-owner and will also be posting an introduction. Please know that we are not mental health professionals and we encourage you to reach out to a professional for help.
Conversations matter, so here is my mental health story: My wellness journey really started in 2019. In 2019 I had a physical medical scare that made me take my health more seriously. Not just my physical health, but my mental health, too. I started to take better care of myself by eating more thoughtfully, drinking more water, and getting exercise *almost* daily. This helped my mental health, too.
Then 2020 hit. COVID-19 hit.
I saw my mental health declining while going through the ups and downs of living through a pandemic. I’ve had anxiety for as long as I can remember, and it was getting much worse toward the end of 2020. I needed help. So, with the support of my family and friends, I made the decision to take that step.
I reached out to my family doctor who made valuable recommendations. One of those recommendations was to seek the help of a therapist, and that’s exactly what I did, and continue to do.
I feel stronger than ever, and still have difficult days, and that’s okay! “It’s okay to not be okay.”
